Beyond the words we speak lies a world of energy, frequency, and vibration. Nikola Tesla is often credited with saying: “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”
Last weekend, those 'secrets' became a little more tangible and visible to me. During a two-day Shamanic Drum Building workshop at Costa del Soul, I had the opportunity to create my own shamanic drum. What a beautiful experience.
In the shamanic tradition, everything carries a spirit. Including the wooden frame of the drum. Once part of a living tree, the wood has now taken on a new form. You intuitively tune in to which tree is meant to become the frame of your drum. The same applies to the drumhead: the skin of an animal that lives on in a new form, carrying the same spirit that once animated it.
As you work with your hands, a connection begins to emerge. With the wood. With the skin. With nature. And perhaps most of all, with yourself. A connection that continues to deepen throughout the creation process. And then comes the moment when you play your drum for the very first time. Or perhaps more accurately, when you connect with an extraordinary instrument of energy, frequency, and vibration. The drum becomes an extension of yourself. You feel the sound and vibrations moving through your body. And you discover what this instrument awakens in others.
When I asked those present what they experienced as I played, three words emerged:
Power. Healing. Opening.
Three qualities I would love to bring into my one-to-one mentorships, where we work not only with words and insights, but also create space for whatever wants to be felt and experienced. Because sometimes, a single vibration can bring you closer to yourself than a thousand words.
Perhaps you recognize that feeling. When something within you is touched by music, a sound, a moment of silence, or an encounter. Something you cannot quite explain, yet feel deeply within. I'm curious: what sound, music, or experience brings you closer to yourself? I'd love for you to share it in the comments below.
