Sometimes a book comes your way that leaves a deep impression. Partnering with Spiritual Intelligence by Altazar Rossiter, PhD, is one of those books for me. A book filled with wisdom and insights that I like to keep close and in which I continue to discover something new.
One passage that particularly resonates with me is how Altazar describes the power of love:
"Love is a creative force, a power for change and transformation. Love creates havoc in situations where it's suppressed. It's so important to understand this.
We feel love and label it an emotion. And then we look for someone or something to hang it on, something or someone to make responsible for what is felt, something or someone to project our feeling onto.
This is how we've learned that it works, but it's not. This way of being with love is flawed. It's a disempowering distortion. It's self-sustaining because it seduces us into looking to retain the feeling at all costs.
What we actually experience when we feel love is our connection with the essence of our own being, and with the Universe. The situation or interaction that triggers an opening to the flow of this energy [people generally close to it, in their everyday existence] simply facilitates the connection. It breaks through the routines that our circumstances demand for survival, and through the distractions we use to avoid changing those circumstances.
When love flows in us we experience ourselves aligned with the light we carry within, something we're very not used to. Another way of looking at it is that we get emotional, because, albeit briefly, we feel love."
